These first two shots are of the bohemian waxwings that invade our mountain ash tree throughout the winter months. It's not always easy to capture them, as they move about so quickly -- but sometimes they surprise me and hold still long enough for a few shots :)




The next two shots were taken at home - my glowing candle in the master bathroom and one of a pair of hanging lamps in the living room.

Spotted this amazing sky while on my way into Anchorage and stopped at the Hans Roelle weigh station to take a shot

I drove up to the Potter Creek subdivision just south of Anchorage, to try to capture the sunset from higher ground. Love the sun shining through the trees!

The remaining photos were taken from a little pull-out along the Seward Hwy, about 8 miles south of Anchorage. I stopped here to take shots of the sunset over Cook Inlet/Turnagain Arm. All the colors you see in the photos are straight out of the camera - no editing, other than cropping (on some) and re-sizing for posting to the web.

The white you see here on the hillside is not snow, but frozen waterfalls. The snow had been wiped away by the winds and warm temps, but the frozen falls are more thick and solid.

Love the contrast here between the red rocks and the bright blue sky and pink clouds! Yes, these colors are real and not added in Photoshop ;)

Playing with artistic filters again -- I like this B&W shot -- what do you think?!

Most of the "water" you see is actually ice; the top part of the photo is where the water is moving.

It was a balmy 44F there along the Seward Hwy, but the wind was blowing so fiercely that I could hardly get my car door open to step outside and take some shots! Consequently, I remained in the car and took pics through the open window :) Oh - and this is about 20 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year...

This shot of the clouds is straight out of the camera - no altering of colors at all!

Love how peaceful and serene this image of the rock-on-ice "feels."

I've titled this shot, "Psalm 97:6" -

Took some photos in Eagle River and in Anchorage, today. It was another clear and cold day - the eagle shots were taken in -24F weather! I stayed in my car while shooting these marvelous raptors - not brave enough to venture outside in that bone-chilling cold air! All of the bird shots were taken at or near the VFW lodge in Eagle River.

The next 10 shots were taken on the grounds of the ZJ Lousaac Public Library in mid-town Anchorage. The temp was significantly warmer there - a mere -3F! The structure shown with icicles is actually a fountain that flows during the spring and summer. I guess they sometimes run it in winter, too - as evidenced by the icicles!

These last two photos were taken at one of my favorite places to shop - Title Wave Books in Anchorage. This is a locally-run used book store that also carries new books, music, toys, games, puzzles, stationery, etc, etc, etc. There is also an internet cafe' in the adjoining coffee shop. I stop in every three or four months and browse their Christianity section. Today I picked up "Unchartered" by Angela Elwell Hunt and "Christ the Lord ~ Out of Egypt" by Anne Rice.

Another clear and cold day...

This first shot was taken along the Old Glenn Hwy in Eagle River. I found this amusing, as six of the raptors are peering intently toward the south while the eagle on the highest branch is looking rather northwest! You can almost hear him thinking, "Ha-Ha! Made ya look!"

"Fog over Palmer Flats"

Took this shot out the passenger side window as I was driving to Wasilla. Love how you can see a bit of sunshine on the mountains in the background.

"Baby, It's COLD Outside!"

While crossing the Palmer Flats on the Knik River Bridge, I glanced up and was startled to see how cold it was in that area! I'm thankful my car has a good heater!

Captured this shot while sitting in the WalMart parking lot in Wasilla. Almost edited out the lamp post, but I like the added interest it gives.

Happy New Year! Took this sunrise shot at 10:10 am in -17F climate...a bit chilly, but well worth it :)

A few years ago, my Hubby and I began a New Year's tradition of going on a photo shoot. We had hoped to capture the sunset, but instead, came across this moose on the side of the road and spent several minutes trying to get his attention while he munched on the bushes! We actually saw five moose this day, but this one gave us the best shots :)
